Voyage of Discovery is a free programme of events, activities and experiences that brings researchers and communities together.

Meet the people behind the discoveries, try hands-on activities, and explore research that affects our everyday lives.

From Antarctic ocean expeditions to lunar rockpool science.

From smart cities to soil health.

This September, research steps out
of the lab and into communities
across Plymouth.

What is Voyage of Discovery?

Voyage of Discovery is the University of Plymouth's Horizon Europe-funded European Researchers' Night programme, delivered by the Public Engagement team across 2026 and 2027.

Every September, the European Researchers' Night takes place simultaneously across Europe, connecting researchers with the public and making EU-funded science visible and relevant to everyday life.

Our events take place on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th September 2026, with free events at venues in Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall, from cultural centres and immersive dome spaces to gardens and shopping centres.

A sustained Researchers in Schools programme runs throughout both years.
